Looking inward for the way forward

San Miguel, Mexico, 2014

In recent weeks, I’ve had an opportunity for some personal reflection, specifically on my creative process. This is just one of many encounters in a life-long process of discovery. In past encounters, I’ve referred to it as an inventory, but that does not quite fit today. Inventory implies an accounting of a numeric and finite value. Even the word “journey” feels a bit off. It seems to suggest a final point of arrival, a destination or a a terminal point. In an attempt to reflect an eternal process of the soul, and for lack of a better word, let’s just call it discovery. So early in this process, I drafted what I hope is my current artistic vision, which I share here:

My artistic vision calls me to…

…expand my life by entering into my creative process – free from fear, judgement and expectation. I am guided by faith that my process leads to communion with my divine source. Clarity and strength of that faith suspend all expectations of the result. My willingness to take the risk is my gift of gratitude to the Universe. I am inspired by the hope that my creative process resides in the axis of communion between my divine source, the world that surrounds me, and my conscious encounter with it.

What’s in it for you?

This vision feels like a declaration – a commitment, that might thrive in having a place to share the fruit that it generates with you. For now, I can see this as a place that is as good as any for that communion.
